Minor Problems in the Neighbourhood….

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know who was playing the unbelievably loud music into the early
hours of Saturday night/ Sunday morning? It kept us awake most of the night
and I kept thinking that someone must have called the police. But it still
continued so I assume no-one did. If it happens again is there a
recommended strategy for dealing with it?

Kind Regards

Lisa (of Number 23)

It was one of the flats at 36, either the first or top floor. I called
the Council environmental noise department at about 3:15, having got the
number from the police. Their night patrol came around at about 5, by
which time the noise was less than it had been. They did not take any
action but recorded a complaint. I don’t know what effect that has for
the future. Their telephone line does not stay open all night but I’m
not sure what time it switches over to a recorded message.
Although it is a case of a bolted horse I think it might have an effect
for the future if more people recorded a complaint now. If it happens
again I think the noise patrol will come more quickly if there is more
than one complaint. As far as I know, I was the only one who
complained. If they can deal with several complaints by making one
visit I suspect that they give that higher priority.

Lisa lässt nicht locker.

Dear All

I have just spoken to the Environmental Noise Department at the Council who
inform me that the next time the noise starts, to call this number between
these hours to alert the Night Noise Patrol. The Night Noise Patrol will
then pay a visit to the offending house. They also recommend filling in a
noise diary sheet to send to the council online which helps them for future
reference. To do this go to:

http://www.xxxxxxxxxx.gov.uk then go to the A – Z list, go to N the select noise
and it explains there how to fill in the Noise Diary Sheet.

The Noise Patrol team number is: 020 7xxxxxxxxxxx

They work: Sunday to Thursday: 8pm to 2am
Friday to Saturday: 10pm to 4am

Kind Regards

Lisa (23)

Und falls noch Fragen offen sind:

The Council says that even if the Noise Patrol number goes to ansaphone,
to leave a message as the team regularly phones in to check messages and
acts on them.

Hier erklingt – indeed – die Stimme der Vernunft…

Dear all,

Is it naive to suggest that someone might also try to talk to the flatowner?
I wasn’t there that night so I can’t volunteer!

Was Lisa auch so sieht, however….

Hi Nick
That’s a good idea, but I was waiting to find out feedback of anyone who
might have tried this on the night and what the response had been

Kind Regards

Lisa

Yes it is naive. I don’t know which flat it is. The noise was so loud that no reasonable person cold believe that they were not causing a serious problem for their neighbours. I do not want to get into a dialogue with such a person since it might become abusive (on both sides)! I have to live next door to them. You, on the other hand are much more reasonable than me and are seldom home. How is South Africa?

Regards

Roger
